Anthony and Katie Elliott visited MetroGrace last month. Anthony served as an intern at MetroGrace a few years ago. That weekend was unusually difficult; but, their presence and their words were a great encouragement. Witnessing the challenges of urban ministry only confirmed the Lord’s direction in their lives. Please pray for the Elliotts as they plan to move to Philadelphia and join the team after completing school.
In one month, we had 4 shootings in Wissinoming. Within 24 hours of each shooting, our church set up a prayer tent in front of the homes where the shootings took place. Our blue tent had a banner with our church name and another inviting folks for prayer. By the second murder, we realized that it wasn't enough to set up for just an hour or two; so we set up from 9 am until 5 pm. We stayed out of sight of news cameras and we never approached anyone. But several people approached us to express sorrow, gratitude and a desire for prayer. Please pray for gospel transformation in our neighborhoods.
Last month, we were able to connect with children and their families by passing out candy, gospel booklets and invitations to worship. We share some apple cider and ginger snaps so folks could take a break and talk. Praise the Lord! We met more than 100 neighbors that night. The next Sunday evening, three boys aged 10, 12 and 14 came for worship. Derrik, the ten year old, asked for a Bible. He returned the following Sunday and prayed to receive Christ as Savior. Please pray for his growth; and pray that his friends would trust Christ, too.
